Royalties Saga: Despite having numerous hit songs, we have never before gotten GHC500 from GHAMRO - Keche

Ghanaian hiplife music duo Keche has expressed their dissatisfaction with the Ghana Music Rights Organization's (GHAMRO) absence of significant royalties for Ghanaian performers.

Despite having multiple popular songs, including "Pressure," "Something Must Happen," and "No Dulling," among others, the "No Dulling" hitmakers said in an interview with Shobiz TV that they have not received royalties equal to or greater than GHC500. Additionally, they made note of the fact that not even well-known musicians like Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, and Stonebwoy had received royalties in the range of GHC10,000 to GHC20,000.

The awards-winning musical duo, Joshua Kojo Ampah and Andrew Kofi Cudjoe, questioned the efficacy of GHAMRO and MUSIGA in resolving this issue and underlined the need for systemic reform.

"No musician can claim to have received royalties of GHC20,000. So, we are unaware of what is taking place. People arrive, and when we have to travel somewhere, our bosses are always there. Nothing changes after the discussions, even if we've been there multiple times. Why should we abandon our well-paying employment to attend a pointless meeting?

Have you, as of yet, encountered any artists who can affirm having received royalties in the amount of GHC10,000? No. No musician, including Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, and Stonebwoy, has ever collected GHC10,000 before, and that is really problematic. When it comes to certain things, I get emotional. GHAMRO has not provided us even GHC500, not even 200 or 100, so after so many years with so many hits—Keche name them—so why do I go to a meeting, if someone like me can't even get GHC500? they said.

Concerns were also expressed regarding the government's lack of assistance in settling the issue.
"I don't know what MUSIGA and GHAMRO are doing. The two continued, "I'm not sure what goes there that the government hasn't supported this stuff too much up until now.
